The spokesperson of the opposition Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Hon. Omar Ceesay, has confirmed the expulsion of two parliamentarians from the party ranks, indicating that the duo have been notified since last month.
In an exclusive interview with Freedomnewspaper, Hon. Ceesay said the decision to expel GDC National Assembly Members for Jarra Central and for Jokadu was prompted by the move taken by the duo to turn their back to party discipline and their acquaintance with the National People’s Party (NPP).
Reports gathered by this medium have it that Hon. Kebba Jallow and Hon. Salifu Jawo have not been in good terms with the party leadership as they were accused of openly throwing their weight behind NPP candidates during the November 2020 by-elections in Niamina and Kerr Jarga.
“This is not something new because they expelled themselves ,” Hon. Omar Ceesay told Freedomnewspaper while indicating that they made utterance during the Meet the People’s Tour that they are supporting President Adama Barrow.
?“The GDC requested that they write to the party indicating they are no longer party members. They failed to do that,” he added.
Over these past months, the President’s party has been making headlines in welcoming former opposition members who opted to drop their backpacks on NPP grounds.
Hon. Ceesay then added that GDC decided to make it easy for them by writing to the Speaker, making it very clear that they have been expelled from parliamentary ranks of the GDC.
Unleashing hell on the two MPs, GDC National Youths Mobilizer, M.C. Cham Jr, took the gloves off and said the duo have betrayed the party.
In an attempt to set the record straight, Cham debunked misinformation being peddled on social media platforms, suggesting that Mama Kandeh? is behind their expulsion.
“The GDC Central Committee endorsed in unanimity their expulsion. Mama Kandeh has nothing to do with the decision,” he emphasized.
