The top high school student-athletes and coaches in the Coastal Empire?for the 2020-21 school year were honored in?a virtual awards show on Monday, June 28.
The free, online program?was more than an hour of awards and special segments featuring a star-studded lineup of major figures from the world of sports as presenters, such as Shaquille O’Neal, Sue Bird, Aaron Rodgers, Chipper Jones, Alex Morgan, Katie Ledecky, Kevin Garnett, Martina Navratilova, Alex Smith, T.J. Watt, Michael Johnson, Urban Meyer?… you get the idea. The stars were truly out.

Big winners:Benedictine’s Carter Holton, South Effingham’s Alex Brown earn Athlete of the Year honors
Among the major award winners were:
Female Athlete of the Year and Softball Player of the Year Alex Brown of South Effingham; Male Athlete of the Year and Baseball Player of the Year Carter Holton of Benedictine; Coach of the Year Bill Evans (wrestling) of Richmond Hill High School; and Team of the Year the Calvary Day girls flag football team.
New for 2021 were special awards for courage?to Windsor Forest running back Trayvon Savage,?and the I AM SPORT Award?for community service to Effingham County cross country and track runner Candace Kieffer.
